Sheilah Banikin
Sheilah’s recent work can be placed into two categories, strongly juxtaposed in their presentation, yet both revealing the same intimate examination of the subject. Her goal is to leave the viewer with a distinct mood triggering an emotional response. Sheilah removes the colour of an object to expose the beauty of a complex structure that lies beneath the façade. She produces intricate drawings of trees, rocks and flowers done with perspective of what lies beneath the surface. The work that appears beside the line drawings are paintings that show the surface that we see in nature. This work is painted in bold colours reflecting our beautiful but short autumn. This work reflects the incredible shape, colour and texture that occurs naturally at a macro level, but makes up much of the world around us. |
