Masoud Ziaian

Mr. Ziaian was born in Tehran, Iran in 1957. He is famous for Moaragh art work. Moaragh is one of the ancient Persian precious handy craft which is made by naturally colored layers of different wood. These layers are carved and placed together to make alive the artist’s true talent, a master piece, one of its’ kind. The worth of a Moaragh art work is in the precision cutting and correlation of the whole work.

Mr. Ziaian had an enormous childhood with his father who was a famous carpenter in Iran. Mr. Ziaian started his carpentry work with his father at age of seven. One of the things Mr. Ziaian always remembers is that in one of his craft classes he made a rocking chair and the teacher did not believe that this was his own work and he got punished. His parent had to go to school and invite the teacher to his shop to observe Mr. Ziaian’s work. Mr. Ziaian was so short that he could not reach the carving machine and his father had to build up steps and pull him up until he reached the machine. He finished the work right in front of the teacher and brought tears to his eyes and impressed him by his talent.

Through his childhood Mr. Ziaian was always interested in painting and drawing and was always sketching and doodling on the paper. It was in his teenage age that he got trained professionally by Mr. Afshar and Katozian who were the most famous painters in Iran. Mr. Ziaian is also well known for his watercolour and acrylic paintings.

Mr. Ziaian opened his firs Art Gallery in Iran in 1981; He was the first painter in Iran who introduced oil painting on ceramic in his Gallery which was a great success.

He obtained his Moaragh diploma in 2000. This diploma includes all the skills of wood turning, engraving and painting, door and window joinery, design and decoration.

Mr. Ziaian believes that art is one of the characteristics of our creator and. the art of putting the colors together is so joyful that he loses the track of days and weeks and it opens the door of discovering more from this ocean of beauty.
