Atessa Hooshvar
Atessa Hooshvar was born in Tehran, Iran in 1969 in a family who valued literature and art. With great inspiration and motivation from Mom (Maliheh Salehi) and having a strong background in both grandparents she found her first calling through music and started playing music when she was 7. She played Santour (Persian traditional Hammered dulcimer) and later, violin and continued that with vocal training. She has performed in some national musical events and still performs Solo or with Canadian Ensembles. Her dad though, a university professor, researcher and scholar (Zardosht Hooshvar) encouraged her in poetry and calligraphy where she could express herself in total silence. She has more than 1000 lines of poetry in Persian language. To articulate her artistic gifts Atessa studied Pure Mathematics in University of Tehran and offered her thesis on the relationship between Music and Mathematics from ancient days till now. However she found the world of colors and shapes so fascinating that she started expressing herself through them. Atessa was so blessed to have her uncle (Yazdan Hooshvar a renowned Iranian Architect) who reviewed and judged her art works in the beginning. Later she started using Architectural elements and Mythical Characters from Persian literature in her works and expressed them with her own color/ shape/ medium language. Atessa believes that she has not disconnected herself from her childhood and that’s what makes her works simple and expressive. |
