Alexandra K. Conrad

In 1994, Alexandra graduated with honours from Ontario College of Art and Design (Toronto, Ontario). Before that, she received Master of Science degree in Geography and also got registered as a Professional Engineer of Ontario in the discipline of Mineral Engineering.

In July 2007, based on her work on portraits, Alexandra was accepted as a member of the Portrait Society of Canada (PSC). She is a recipient of several art and design awards. Special mentioning deserves “Merit Award” given to her in 1995 by CAPIC  (The Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators in Communications).

Alexandra likes to create paintings, which evoke emotions in the viewers. The conception of her work of art starts with either a subject, or an idea, or an inspirational view, grabbing colours, or an interesting “action of light” at certain moment. This evolves into emotions and feelings and visions leading to her art creation and gets expressed in paintings in different media.

She particularly enjoys painting portraits. When creating a portrait, besides portraying the likeness, she strives to express the person’s feelings. That expression is her biggest challenge and accomplishment. In her portraits she is not after a photographic representation of the person, but rather showing her interpretation of the person and his/her overall physical gesture and emotional state.
